Working under pressure is a good thing. Wait. Hear me out.

In my first job (as a retail marketing executive), my boss walked into the office one day and “casually” told me we had 48 hours to roll out a new campaign.

That meant designing and printing flyers, window stickers, and danglers.

It meant ideating, approving, and executing a full-fledged media campaign.

It meant drafting a press release and reaching out to the press.

It meant communicating with vendors and approving the use of their brands in our promotion.

All within 48 hours.

Did we manage to do it? Yes (well, I had to ask my cousin to come over, and we stayed up all night working).

…and the campaign was launched on time. 

The lesson here is that there’s a lot to learn from working under pressure. Just put your mind to it and do what you have to do.

So, without further ado, here are nine benefits of working under pressure.

1. It’s a catalyst for growth

Working under pressure challenges you to step outside your comfort zone. To confront obstacles. And to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. This will help you grow (personally and professionally) as you overcome challenges and develop new skills.

2. It fuels creativity

Under pressure, you’re compelled to think creatively and explore unconventional solutions. You’ll be able to use your imagination and creativity to develop new approaches that address problems and yield results.

3. It’s a sign of resilience

Embracing pressure proves your ability to remain calm, resourceful, and resilient in difficult situations. You’ll get the opportunity to showcase how you thrive under challenging conditions (and you’ll be able to answer that question in your next interview).

4. It’s an opportunity to make an impact

Working under pressure provides a platform to showcase your talents, make meaningful contributions, and achieve real results. You’ll get the chance to leave a lasting impact and create positive change in your organisation and beyond.

5. It offers a path to reach new heights

Pressure provides an opportunity for growth and achievement. It helps you push your limits, set ambitious goals, and pursue excellence. This way, you’ll be able to reach new heights of success and fulfilment, both personally and professionally.

6. It sharpens your focus

Pressure demands your full attention and concentration. It improves your focus and ability to prioritise tasks, make decisions, and execute with precision. You’ll be on your way to increase productivity and effectiveness.

7. It improves decision-making

Under pressure, you’re forced to make decisions quickly and decisively. You’ll use your knowledge, experience, and intuition to assess situations, weigh options, and choose the best action. This will help improve your decision-making skills and judgment.

8. It also improves problem-solving skills

With complex challenges, you’ll need innovative thinking and strategic problem-solving. You’ll need to explore creative solutions, collaborate with others, and adapt to changing circumstances. This will support your development and refine your problem-solving abilities.

9. It increases your confidence

High-pressure situations will boost your self-confidence and belief in your abilities. This sense of empowerment will also fuel your motivation, ambition, and resilience.
